NDSU plays for first NCAA tournament tonight

The North Dakota State Bison are one win away from their first NCAA tournament in their first season as a full member of Division I. It’s on at 8 PM EST on ESPN2. I was surprised to learn that Jayhawk fans are actually familiar with a former NDSU coach.

And they won! That probably puts them in the play-in game on Tuesday (unless that's based on conference affiliation...). Still, pretty good accomplishment for the 1st year of eligibility.

Yeah, it was a good game. Battling back from a double digit deficit at halftime to win on a last second shot.

I would be surprised if they're in the play-in game, though. They have an RPI of 94, which is above current qualifiers East Tennessee St. (116) and Radford (131). In terms of RPI, they're about equivalent to a Washington State or Seton Hall.

Go Thundering Herd!

Being such a basketball powerhouse, it's surprising that my week at NDSU basketball camp in 7th grade with coach Irv Inniger didn't result in becoming a more dominant player myself. I did get blisters, had a fight with my best friend when he stole my room key, and learned about an unfortunate incident a few doors down in the dorm that resulted in one camper being given the name "Spanky" that painfully stuck with him for the next 6 years.

Thanks for that camp story, Doubleoh. Now I don't feel so bad about my unfortunate incident at wrestling camp.

I was 8 and I was 500 miles away from home. On the first night, the camp director was addressing everyone. As he was wrapping up his talk, he said, "If you need anything, come talk to me." I thought, ok, I'd better go tell him my stomach was acting up. So I got up and walked up to the front of the room.

About 2 steps away from him, I started to tell him I didn't feel so good, but instead of words coming out of my mouth, it was my supper. Direct hit to his right shoe.
