I’m watching a 20-minute fireworks show over the city’s harbor from my second office, otherwise known as “home.” Pretty awesome stuff. Check out last year’s show.

National Day commemorates the founding of modern China, of which we’re technically a part here. Mao Zedong declared the existence of the People’s Republic of China Oct. 1, shortly after Chiang Kai-Shek booked a one-way ticket to Taiwan.

Oct. 1 is also the day Germany annexed the Sudetenland. I’m trying not to draw parallels.
