The NYT has an interesting article on sagging pants and laws prohibiting them. While baggy clothing is still the primary trend in urban clothing, I was under the impression that exaggeratedly sagging pants were on the way out. I’ll see the occasional very low hanging pair of pants like I’ll see the occasional club kid, but it’s not ubiquitous.
While the article dwells on the racial implications of banning this style of dress, it also interestingly notes that many of the people proposing the ban are black and that the bans reflect generational differences. Have these people learned nothing from Footloose? You can’t win, folks.

Saggy pants still exist amongst the urbanites (aka student athletes) on our campus. I saw multiple boxers on campus during the first week of school.

I wonder whether saggy pants will be featured in the 2008 Footloose remake starring Zac Efron.

Ahh...following the model of Hairspray, I see. Take a 1980s movie, turn it into a Broadway musical and then remake the movie.
Not only will saggy pants be featured in the remake, but now they'll be freak dancing.
