Apparently I Now Subscribe to Sports Illustrated

No, I didn’t get the copy meant for upstairs neighbors Sarah and Nadine. It’s got my name on it. It’s got my address.

This issue rates the best collegiate running backs. The best appears to be a young student-athlete named Steve Slaton of West Virginia. I’m sure his mother is proud.

Hellx, you’re welcome to come by and grab my issues outside the months of December through March.

I'm a big fan of mysterious subscriptions. My father returned home from a year in China to suddenly find that he was a Glamour subscriber (his other subsrciptions being The Economist and Oil and Gas Journal, so you can see how it fits). My former roommate, a feminist evolutionary biologist in her 30s was distressed to suddenly receive YM until she discovered a "last boy standing" feature and was then all about picking the best looking 17 year old each month. I was somewhat alarmed when Readers Digest started arriving to my married name (which, as I did not change my name, nobody uses)but that mystery was solved as a present from my grandfather (whose last act may have been to re-subscribe last year). I'll actually miss it when it stops coming-- except I won't miss having an issue of RD to deal with each month.

I'd agree with the assessment that Steve Slaton is among the best college running backs, but a case could also be made for Darren McFadden from Arkansas for the best.

Fear not, Plantnerd. Now you can get Drama in Real Life online.
