Dr. No heard from a friend that a vendor at the local flea market had on hand many works from a never-famous-enough-to-be-forgotten New York artist named Murray Guzik. Go ahead and Google him — except for a statue at an estate sale, you won’t find him. Dr. No had never heard of him either, but once she saw his work she fell for it. Check it out for yourself. It’s kinda sad that his work has ended up in tattered cardboard boxes, piled one piece on top of the other and sold on a cement playground off Brooklyn’s yuppified Seventh Avenue. But as Dr. No points out, “guess there is no ecaping it - most of us are probably destined to have our most treasured possesions sold at a flea market by a chain smoking woman named Dolores.”

Nice find. Is Dr. No going to go the Brooklyn Museum to see whether they have more information on the 1951 group exhibit that Guzik was in?

Image searching for Guzik also turns up this item.

oh my god - there were a few of those rooster prints there... i have to snap those up on saturday.
excellent idea - i'll check out the Brooklyn Museum. A few of the artists listed on the invite seem to have gotten some recognition. Guzik will probably never be a huge star, but I think he'll be collectible.

They had several roosters, all right. Would be nice to have a couple.

I got three 'Guziks' from the Brooklyn Flea Market in June. Scary vendor with crazy story 'bout how she ended up with the "remnants" (as she called them) of his, (Guzik's) estate.
Wish I bought more...

I also bought 2 Murray Guzik drawings from that flea market after being turned on to his drawings by a friend of mine.
After going through some of the material, I did notice that he had a connection to Cooper Union as there were some ledgers showing his purchasing material for classes. I think he was on staff there. The lady at the flea market has many more drawings of his. Also some sketch books.

I just googled Murray Guzik and found an auction house that had a couple of paintings available.
Abstract/figurative. Check it out.
