Sure, Detroit has hit some rough spots: a shrinking population, an ignominius exit for the Red Wings from the Stanley Cup playoffs and an execrable baseball team. There are signs of life, however, like the White Stripes and the indy-media Detroit Metro Times.
The Metro Times always has readable articles in it whether it’s a story about a photographer who went from fine art to the morgue and back or a tongue-in-cheek history of the power ballad.

Timeline's wrong. First power ballad: The Beatles' "Let It Be." The day I recognized that turgid four minutes as the great granddaddy of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" is the day I realized I hate the Beatles. Except for Ringo.
(And yes, I didn't know what "turgid" meant until I blew it at Cranium, causing an unlikely team of Jebus and Dr. No to trump TSI! and me. I'm a loser.)

Hmm, the NY-norlosers are into wife-swapping I see. It seems like a pretty even trade, though. What you lost in Dr. No's ability to draw you made up in TSI!'s musical and acting ability. I once lost a game of cranium because nobody could tell that I was humming "Pretty Woman." Come on! Nothing's easier than that.

Jebus's musical stylings were so bad that at one point TSI! had to hum a song loudly into my ear. Jebus's bleats were that stultifying.
